Sumitomo (SHI) Demag to Unveil Revolutionary Micro Molding Solution at MD&M West in Anaheim, California

[Anaheim, 02/06/2024] — Sumitomo (SHI) Demag, a global leader in injection molding technology, is excited to announce its participation in the upcoming MD&M West tradeshow, set to take place in Anaheim, California. At the forefront of Sumitomo’s exhibit will be the groundbreaking all-electric SE30EV-A injection molding machine, showcasing its capabilities in micro molding applications.

 

The SE30EV-A injection molding machine is being utilized in a micro molding application featuring a mold from Makuta. The selected part, a 22uL tube used in testing devices, has been carefully chosen to demonstrate the intricate micro features achievable with precision tools. Crafted from a custom blended polypropylene material, the part ensures optimal rigidity while featuring an optically clear lens at one end, essential for medical testing purposes.

 

Sumitomo’s Spiral Logic screw assembly, incorporated into the SE30EV-A machine, plays a crucial role in enhancing molding stability by removing shear. This uni-layer melting model eliminates the compression zone, preventing burn spots that could tarnish the optical lens.

 

Following the molding process, the Yushin robot efficiently removes the sprue mechanically and sorts the parts into a cavity separation unit for packaging, further streamlining the production process. Supporting the SE30EV-A machine are temperature controllers from HB Therm and a Frigel chiller to maintain optimal operating conditions.
